“The goal for this fall is to implement Phase 1 of the Master Plan for Gerringer Gardens,” Jennifer Tripp, Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG) instructor at Garrett Elementary, said. “Phase 1 develops the area around the weeping cherry tree that we planted last fall. This will include perennials, annuals, gravel, benches and a "kindred spirit" mailbox. Additional fundraising efforts this year will focus on Phase 2 funding, including our most costly expenses to build pavilions, add electrical wiring, and concrete paths to make the space accessible to all student groups. Sustainability, maintenance and accessibility have been cornerstones in our design discussions. The Fun Run will help support these efforts.”

Tripp indicated that Gerringer Gardens will be utilized to service the students at Garrett Elementary in a wide variety of ways.

“We are constantly seeking ways to showcase the talents of the students here at Garrett,” Tripp explained. “As an A Plus Arts school we integrate dance, music, theatre, and visual arts into our content instruction.  Our art teacher, Mrs. Jen Dufort, helped students create custom medals for this year's Fun Run.  These treasured medals add a special touch to this year's run.  Gerringer Gardens will provide an outdoor learning and performance space for students for years to come.  It will expand our campus beyond the walls of the traditional classroom.”

Interested participants who have not already registered can walk up and register to participate in the Fun Run Sunday morning at Garrett Elementary. The cost is $10.00.

Approximately 200 people participated in the first annual Fun Run, which was held this past spring and raised over $2,000 for the Gerringer Gardens project. The organizers made the decision to permanently move the annual event to the early fall in order to provide more favorable weather for participants.
