Living Free Ministries is continuing to expand their programs and their stores in 2019.
The program is planning to open their newest Thrift Superstore on Monday, February 4. The new store will be opening in the 44,000 square-foot space previously occupied by the Hospice Flea Market and Donation Center in Haw River.
“This is going to be our distribution center,” explained Living Free staff member Colby Flood. “I believe we’ll be carrying a good amount of furniture… It is going to carry good merchandise just like our other two stores do and it will pretty much depend on what the community comes out and brings.”
Flood said they have already been receiving items for the newest store, but are still in need of volunteers to get the place ready for opening.
“The community involvement is really good and we are already in the process of taking tractor trailer loads of donations over to the store to sort them out so that we can sell them there,” he said. “We just want to keep being able to receive community involvement, get the donations in and get the volunteer time in, and keep the sales going - helping out the community by selling stuff at a good price but also taking those proceeds and funneling them back into the ministry.”
Just like Living Free’s other two thrift store locations in Mebane and Graham, all proceeds from the newest store will go directly back toward the Living Free Ministry programs - the men’s ministry and the up-and-coming Mary’s House program for women.
“One-hundred percent of our proceeds go back to the ministry so we can create an opportunity of hope for men and women battling life-controlling issues,” Flood said.
Those interested in volunteering to prepare the new store can participate any time Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. now through Saturday, February 2. Those in need of school or court-appointed service hours can also participate.
Flood explained that volunteers will be doing fun, simple tasks such as sorting donations, assembling and filling displays, cleaning and unloading items.
“An hour of your time could make a direct impact on someone in our community,” he said. “The community is very excited. They’re excited to see the growth, but it symbolizes a lot more. It shows that the ministry itself is growing - with Mary’s House opening up in quarter one of this year, we have the men’s ministry growing too - it just shows there’s a lot of prosperity in the ministry and that God’s hand is definitely on it helping in all aspects.”
The newest Living Free store will be located at 1003 W. Main Street in Haw River. No prior registration or confirmation is necessary before volunteering.
