Walker’s Funeral Home and Crematory of Mebane, which has been serving the local community for nearly a century, recently hired a new Funeral Director and Embalmer - Tommy Brown.
A native of Mebane, this is a homecoming for Brown, who attended Eastern Alamance High School and has long-standing roots in the local community. Brown replaced former Managing Director Adam Baynard as Walker’s new Funeral Director in September.
“I grew up in Mebane. I went to high school here - graduated in 1990. I went to work at Rich and Thompson in Burlington and Graham for 28 years, and then I came back here,” said Walker in a recent interview. “I’m very excited to come back home and be back here in the local area.”
Walker’s Funeral Home opened a brand-new facility at its Mebane location at 304 West Center Street that opened to the public in the winter of 2018. It offers a crematory, as well as a formal chapel.
“The biggest thing is to be local. It is a locally-owned, family-owned funeral home with local people here,” Brown said. “It’s a new era with the new facility, the new chapel, It’s a new era of the business with the new building. It was never a formal chapel before. Now it is a chapel.”
