Alamance Community College welcomed its 2020 graduates on June 5 for a campus drive-through where students picked up commencement caps and gowns, received yard signs and diploma covers, and had professional photos taken.

About 300 of the College’s nearly 900 graduates drove their vehicles in a steady stream around the back of the main campus for several hours, cheered on by college faculty and staff who brandished congratulatory signs and offered encouragement. College employees who are members of the commencement planning committee stayed busy all day delivering accoutrements to the students in their cars.

Now that most graduates have received their caps and gowns and diploma covers, the traditional commencement that was originally scheduled for the evening of June 5 will have a different look later this month:

  • Virtual commencement ceremony will “go live” at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 26 via a link on the ACC home page.
  • Welcome remarks from ACC administrators.
  • Names of all 854 graduates (698 curriculum, 156 GED/Adult HS) will be scrolled on the screen as video highlights of the June 5 event is shown.
