ABC Store

It was business as usual at the Mebane ABC Store, 7713 US-70, on Thursday morning. It was just 12 hours after the store was robbed at gunpoint.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in connection with an armed robbery of the ABC store on US-70 in Mebane late Wednesday.

Investigators used information from the vehicle tag and the ABC store video to confirm the suspects identity and arrest Bradford Perry Jr., of Durham.

Authorities are still looking for one of the suspects who robbed a Mebane ABC store at gunpoint Wednesday night, and then led a law enforcement vehicle on a high speed chase that ended in a collision and the suspects fleeing in different directions.

Shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday, two suspects entered the ABC store on US-70 in Mebane, near the Orange/Alamance line. A customer was in the store, as was a cashier.

The suspects, donning hoodie sweatshirts, ski masks, and sunglasses, revealed handguns and demanded money from the clerk and the customer. They made off with the cash register drawer, the customer’s wallet, and two bottles of liquor.

A witness followed the suspects’ vehicle in pursuit until law enforcement units located the vehicle and began their own pursuit.

Video footage from ABC11 shows several law enforcement vehicles pursuing the suspects’ gray Chevy Malibu down I-85 North. The car was driving with no lights and swerving across lanes.

The chase ended in Durham following a collision between a North Carolina State Highway Patrol cruiser and the suspect’s car.

One suspect fled the scene on foot, the other was able to drive away following the collision.

The police vehicle was too damaged from the collision to continue a pursuit of the vehicle.

The heist occurs one day after thieves robbed a tractor trailer truck in the Mebane section of Orange County, at the Petro station on Buckhorn Road. Those thieves fled on foot and have not yet been apprehended.

The investigation is ongoing. Orange County Sheriff’s Officer Investigator Jeff Ray is the lead on the case.

Anyone with information is asked to call him at the Orange County Sheriff’s Office at (919) 245-2975.
