Mebane Police searching for robbery suspect

The Mebane Police Department is searching for the above individual in relation to a robbery that took place at Kay Jewelry in Mebane the afternoon of Tuesday, November 12. The suspect allegedly used a hammer to break one of the display cases and steal several rings. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to contact the Mebane Police Department at (919)563-9031 or Alamance County Crime Stoppers at (336)229-7100. 

On Tuesday, November 12, at approximately 5:23 p.m., members of the Mebane Police Department responded to Kay Jewelry located at 4000 Arrowhead Blvd. Mebane, NC in reference to a strong-armed robbery. Central Communications advised that the employees of Kay Jewelry were in a back room locked inside. 

Based on the information that was ascertained by witnesses, the suspect walked into the business and acted as if he was window shopping. After walking around the display cases, the male hit one the display cases with a fiberglass handled hammer, taking an unknown number of rings. At this point, the suspect exited the store and left on foot in an unknown direction. 

The suspect was described as a black male with a medium complexion, and was wearing a gray pull-over jacket, and a hat with an unknown logo. The suspect was not masked or wearing any gloves at the time of the incident. 

No one was injured during the incident, and no other weapon other than the hammer was displayed.
