On May 14 at approximately 10:45 p.m., officers with the Burlington Police Department responded to 1522 N Mebane St. in reference to a stabbing. Officers arrived on scene and located the victim, Haniyeh Khodaverdian 38 year old of Burlington suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Officers located the suspect, Ali Asghari Sandi 41 year old of Burlington, and attempted to detain him just outside of the residence. While attempting to arrest Sandi he assaulted officers by throwing gasoline on them and then charging at officers with a knife. Sandi stabbed Burlington K9 Talon during the apprehension.
Haniyeh Khodaverdian was transported to ARMC with non life threatening injuries. A Burlington officer was treated at ARMC for injuries sustained during the arrest and was released. K9 Talon is being treated for his injuries which are not non life threatening.
As a result of the investigation Sandi was arrested charged with the following:

3x (F) Assault on LEO causing Physical Injury (14-34.7(c)(1))
1x (F) Assault on Law Enforcement Agency Animal (14-163.1(b))
3x (M) Assault on Government Official (14-33(c)(4))
1x (F) Assault with Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury (14-32(b))
