Local man arrested at Mebane restaurant for solicitation

Terry Lynn Walters, a 56-year-old white male residing at 2643 Saxapahaw Bethlehem Church Rd. in Graham, allegedly contacted an undercover officer and solicited sex acts involving a minor on Thursday, May 23, according to the Alamance County Sheriff's Office. Walters was arrested in the parking lot of a Mebane restaurant and charged with Soliciting a Sex Act with a Minor by Computer and Attempted Indecent Liberties with a Minor. He was issued a $50,000 secured bond and has a first court appearance on Tuesday, May 28. 

On Friday, May 24, the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office conducted an undercover operation on social media targeting adults soliciting children for sex acts. 

This investigation began Thursday, May 23 when suspect Terry Lynn Walters, a 56-year-old white male residing at 2643 Saxapahaw Bethlehem Church Rd. in Graham, contacted an undercover officer and solicited sex acts involving a minor. 

Walters agreed to meet at a restaurant in Mebane, where further details of the planned sex acts were revealed to the undercover officer. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office then arrested Walters in the restaurant’s parking lot. Probable cause was developed for a seizure of electronic devices on-scene which will be forensically examined at a later date. 

The Sheriff’s Office received technical assistance from Homeland Security Investigations (DHS-HSI, RAC Office Winston-Salem) and help from the Mebane Police Department. The investigation is still ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.

Walters was charged with Soliciting a Sex Act with a Minor by Computer and Attempted Indecent Liberties with a Minor. He was issued a $50,000 secured bond and has a first appearance of Tuesday, May 28.
