MEBANE, NC: Linda Rae Richie, 71, our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend, of Mebane, North Carolina, formerly of Saylorsburg Pennsylvania passed away peacefully at the Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, North Carolina on Tuesday July 7, 2020 due to complications of ALS.
Linda was born August 16, 1948 in Hazleton, Pennsylvania to George Louis Henry and Norma Effie Bertie. She is survived by her son Bruce J. Richie and wife Christine, her grandchildren Sarah and James, her great grandson Noah all of Warminster, Pennsylvania; her brother George A. Henry and wife Cathy of Muncy, Pennsylvania; and her sister Ruth Ann Grohol of Durham, North Carolina; her nephew John Grohol and wife Tracey of Hazleton, Pennsylvania; her niece Jennifer and husband Greg Perna of Durham, North Carolina; her niece Amy and husband Bill Griscom of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; five great nieces; and one great nephew.
Linda was a 1966 graduate of West Hazleton High School where she was an active majorette and served as vice president of the Spirit Club. During her high school years, she was a Worthy Advisor and Grand Lecturer of the Mayflower Assembly, International Order of the Rainbow Girls. Linda graduated from East Stroudsburg University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish. She worked as a Computer Operator in the Computer Center at East Stroudsburg University, formerly East Stroudsburg State College, and retired from there in 2007 after 34 years of service.
While residing in Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania, Linda volunteered at the Boutique at the Rink in Bethlehem and attended Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Bangor. She also spent much her spare time sitting on her porch enjoying the view of Saylors Lake.
Linda relocated from Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania to Mebane, North Carolina in November 2018 to get away from the cold Pennsylvania winters, to enjoy the North Carolina weather, and to spend time with her sister Ruth Ann. While residing in Mebane, North Carolina, Linda attended the Macedonia Evangelical Lutheran Church in Burlington. She also spent much of her spare time sitting on her patio and her veranda enjoying the sights and sounds of the outdoors.
Over the years, Linda really enjoyed spending time with her friends in Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, and Pennsylvania; Becca, Clay, Chris B, Dave & Chilon, Deb, Gail J & Chris J, Kathleen, Kathy & her three daughters Kelly, Tara, and Leah, Kristina, Loretta, Pastor Barb, Peter, and Rosemary.
Linda and her family sincerely thank everyone at the Hock Family Pavilion for their compassion towards and excellent care of Linda and making her feel comfortable during her final days. She really enjoyed the time she spent outdoors on the patio.
Private Services were held at Mitchell Funeral Home at Raleigh Memorial Park in Raleigh, North Carolina.
