Eastern readies for conference meet with Adidas Challenge

A total of 14 Eastern Alamance High male and female runners took part in the recent Adidas XC Challenge, which was held at the WakeMed Soccer Complex in Cary. Freshman runner Andrew Parker, who appears to have a bright future for the Eagles in cross country, had a solid showing, placing 48th overall out of 282 runners in the men's competition, placing him among the top 20 percent of all competitors. Among the EAHS women's runners, senior Logan Marine had the top overall time, placing 72nd out of 198 runners. 

Eastern Alamance’s men’s and women’s cross country teams made their way to the WakeMed Soccer Complex in Cary this past weekend for the Adidas XC Challenge, where the Eagles got a chance to compete against some of the top distance runners in the entire state of North Carolina. 

A total of nine EAHS male runners competed in the Boy’s Invitational, with freshman Andrew Parker finishing 48th overall out of 282 runners in the race with a time of 17 minutes, 45.40 seconds. Senior Jahdiel Dinarte was the next Eagle to cross the finish line, as he placed 72nd with a time of 18 minutes, 3.70 seconds. Parker and Dinarte were the only two Eastern runners to place among the top 200 competitors. 

Senior Alex Catalano came in 224th (20 minutes, 24.80 seconds), while brother Ryan Catalano placed 239th (21 minutes, 3.80 seconds). Three more Eagles finished the race - sophomore Kaden Gibbs, who placed 255th (22 minutes, 10 seconds), freshman Benny Salvatore, who placed 259th (22 minutes, 22.30 seconds), and junior Brian Ortiz-Perez, who placed 269th (23 minutes, 11.20 seconds). As a team, the Eagles placed 26th overall out of 33 competing teams in the race. 

In the Girl’s Invitational race at the Adidas XC Challenge, the Eagles were paced by senior Logan Marine, who finished 72nd overall out of 198 runners with a time of 23 minutes, 6.90 seconds. Freshman Audrey Hupman was next through the finish line for EAHS, placing 109th with a run of 23 minutes, 52.70 seconds. Next was senior Anneke Brouwer, who managed a 147th place time of 25 minutes, 28.60 seconds, and then junior Isabella Miller with her run of 28 minutes, 41.40 seconds, which placed 188th. Josie Gonzalez finished 191st with a time of 29 minutes, 31.50 seconds. Eastern placed 24th overall as a team in the group competition. 

The Eagles return to cross country action on Tuesday, as they travel to Greensboro for a Mid-State Conference quad meet at Northern Guilford. EAHS competed against the Nighthawks, as well as Morehead and Western Alamance. We will have full results on MebaneEnterprise.com later in the week.
