Eastern Alamance High’s men’s and women’s cross country teams competed this past week in the Mid-State 3A Cross Country Championships, which were held Wednesday afternoon at Lake Cammack in Burlington.
The Eagle’s men’s team placed two runners on the All-Mid-State Conference team, while the EAHS women’s team placed six different runners on its All-Conference squad.
Eagles senior Jahdiel Dinarte and freshman Andrew Parker each placed in the top five of the men’s race, with Dinarte’s time of 18 minutes, 40.33 seconds placing fourth overall, and Parker’s time of 18 minutes, 54.79 seconds placing fifth. Northern Guilford, the Mid-State Conference champs in men’s cross country, swept the top three spots.
Other EAHS participants in the 48-runner men’s conference meet included senior Ryan Catalano (21st place - 21 minutes, 15.59 seconds), senior Alex Catalano (23rd place - 21 minutes, 56.39 seconds), junior Ivan Castillo (24th place - 21 minutes, 58.47 seconds), junior Cullen Justice (26th place - 22 minutes, 5.75 seconds), and freshman Benny Salvatore (22 minutes, 31.83 seconds).
As a team, the Eagles men’s squad placed third overall, behind only Northern Guilford and Western Alamance.
In the women’s race, which featured 34 runners, EAHS sophomore Laila Anderson placed third overall with a time of 20 minutes, 32.81 seconds. Anderson was one of a half-dozen Eagle runners to place among the top half of the field. Eastern placed second in the conference meet, behind only conference champ Northern Guilford.
Freshman Audrey Hupman got the Eagles another top five finish in the Mid-State meet, as her time of 23 minutes, 13.07 seconds placed eighth overall. Next to come in for the Eagles was Logan Marine. The senior came in 12th with a time of 24 minutes, 53.56 seconds. Adrianna Glancy was next to come in for the Eagles, as she placed directly behind Marine in 13th place with a time of 25 minutes, 2.75 seconds.
Eagles also took the next two spots, as sophomore Grace Dobson placed 14th (25 minutes, 8.51 seconds), and senior Anneke Brouwer placed 15th (25 minutes, 32.37 seconds). Anderson, Hupman, Marine, Glancy, Dobson, and Brouwer each were named All-Conference in the women’s meet. Junior Isabella Miller also participated for EAHS, placing 26th with a time of 30 minutes, 16.18 seconds.
Eastern’s varsity runners will now look ahead to the NCHSAA Mideast Regionals, which will be held at Northwood High School in Pittsboro on Saturday, November 2, in hopes of possibly qualifying for the NCHSAA state finals in Kernersville on Saturday, November 9.
