Eagles host several teams for indoor track meet

Eastern Alamance hosted an indoor track event Tuesday afternoon at the EAHS track and field facility. The Eagles are looking ahead not only to the upcoming NCHSAA 3A state indoor track and field championships, but the upcoming outdoor track and field season. 

The Eastern Alamance’s men’s and women’s indoor track teams hosted an event on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 28 at the EAHS Track. It was the third indoor track meet of the winter season held at the EAHS track, and was appropriately named the Eastern Alamance Polar Bear No. 3. 

In the men’s races, EAHS senior Jaiden Thomas placed first for the Eagles in the 300 meter dash finals, recording a time of 37.34 seconds. He was closely followed by teammates Myking Huntley, a fellow senior who placed third overall (39.68 seconds), and junior Gustavo Salas, whose time of 39.69 seconds placed fourth out of 17 runners. Fellow EAHS athletes Kenan Walker, a senior (43.07 seconds) and sophomore Coby Corbett (43.13 seconds), came in ninth and tenth place, respectively. 

Along with his third place finish in the 300 meter dash, Huntley also placed third overall in the 55 meter hurdles, posting a time of 9.10 seconds. Corbett (9.26 seconds) placed fifth in the same event. 

Senior Ezechiel Yao recorded another first place result for the Eagles in the 500 meter dash event, recording a time of 1 minute, 11.76 seconds. Yao was the only competitor in the pole vault event, clearing 7 feet on the bar. 

In the women’s competitions, senior Jesseka Alston posted a second place time in the 300 meter dash (46.53 seconds) for the Eagles, as well as a third place result in the 55 meter dash (8.02 seconds). Junior Imani Corbett followed up Alston with a fourth place time in the 300 meter dash event (48.55 seconds), and a ninth place finish in the 55 meters (8.32 seconds). Corbett also competed in a third event - the long jump competition - coming in second out of five competitors with a leap of 13 feet, 11.75 inches.

In the men’s shot put competition, senior Wyatt Willard came in second overall (33 feet, 3.5 inches), while sophomores Jaden McAdoo (30 feet, 1 inch) and Kipruto Maritim (25 feet, 9.5 inches), came in third and fourth, respectively. Junior Hurley Baker’s throw of 25 feet, 1 inch rounded out of the field in sixth place. 

In the 1,000-yard meter run, Jahdiel Dinarte, another EAHS senior, placed third overall (2 minutes, 50.43 seconds), while another twelfth grader - Gavin Lee-Hardin - came in 12th overall (3 minutes, 13.56 seconds). 

Four other Eagles participated in the 1,600 meter run - junior Ivan Castillo (19th place, 5 minutes, 34.81 seconds), freshman Benny Salvatore (20th place, 5 minutes, 35.38 seconds), senior Ryan Catalano (21st place, 5 minutes, 36.74 seconds), and senior Alex Catalano (24th place, 5 minutes, 47.19 seconds). 

Participating in the 55 meter dash event representing EAHS’s women’s squad was sophomore Stoney Dixon (14th place, 8.99 seconds), sophomore Amelia Sheref (17 place, 9.67 seconds), and sophomore Skyler Davidson (18th place, 10.26 seconds). The trio of tenth graders also represented the Eagles in the shot put event, with Dixon placing sixth (22 feet, 10 inches), Sheref placing eighth (20 feet, 6 inches), and Davidson placing ninth (14 feet, 9 inches). 

In other Eastern women’s results from the Polar Bear No. 3, Izabella Sciorra competed as one of two competitors in the pole vault event, clearing 8 feet to place second. Freshman Adrianna Glancy placed fifth in the 55 meter hurdles competition (11.91 seconds), while sophomore Josie Gonzalez placed third in the 3,200 meter run (17 minutes, 15.13 seconds). 

The NCHSAA 3A state indoor track and field meet is scheduled for Friday, February 14 in Greensboro.
