Eagles place No. 14 in HighSchoolOT.com preseason poll

Eastern Alamance’s football team heads into the 2019 season as one of the favorites to prevail in the Mid-State Conference. The Eagles were the only team in the Mid-State to make the HighSchoolOT.com statewide preseason poll. Eastern is ranked No. 14 in the west region of the state - the seventh-highest ranking among 3A teams in the region.

Eastern Alamance’s varsity football team, which returns double-digit starters from last year’s 10-4 squad that made an inspiring run to the third round of the NCHSAA 3A state playoffs, has earned a top 15 preseason regional ranking from HighSchoolOT.com in its annual August Top 25 Football Poll.

Although the Eagles play in the East Region of the NCHSAA state playoffs, EAHS was placed in the West Region for the HighSchoolOT.com poll, which placed them with bigger schools from Charlotte and Greensboro.

Despite the presence of numerous 4A powerhouses, such as Charlotte-area schools Myers Park, Mallard Creek, Hough and Vance near the top of the list, Eastern ranked No. 14 overall and No. 7 among schools in its 3A classification. Only six 3A schools from the western part of the state - Charlotte Weddington, Greensboro Dudley, Charlotte Catholic, Northwest Cabarrus, Gastonia Huss and Southeast Guilford - were ranked higher than the Eagles in the regional poll.

EAHS was the only school from the Mid-State Conference to earn a spot in the HighSchoolOT.com preseason poll. Although the Eagles have relinquished the Mid-State Conference crown to rival Western Alamance the past three seasons, John Kirby’s squad is looking to get back to the top of the league for the first time since 2015 and return to the NCHSAA 3A state championship game for the first time since reaching the finals back-to-back in 2009 and 2010.
