Nick, Emily Mathews named All-State by Tar Heel Youth Golf Association

Eastern Alamance star golfer Nick Mathews (left), seen here on the day he officially signed to play golf at N.C. State University, was named the North Carolina Junior Golfer of the Year by the Tar Heel Youth Golf Association. Both he and his younger sister Emily (right), a freshman standout for the EAHS women's golf team, were named All-State by the TYGA, and will compete at the Carolinas-Georgia Junior Championship in South Carolina over Martin Luther King, Jr. Day weekend. 

Local youth star golfers Emily and Nick Mathews, both of Eastern Alamance High School, have been named to the TYGA All-State teams. 30 of the state's best golfers make up the three All-State teams, with 10 golfers per team.

Emily Mathews, a freshman at EAHS and standout star of the women's golf team for the 2019 fall season, made the 1st team in the top 10 in the state. She is one of only 2 freshman to make 1st team.

Nick Mathews, a senior at Eastern High, is the North Carolina Junior Player of the Year, finishing first in the 2019 TYGA state rankings. He is also named to the men's first team. Mathews will begin his collegiate golf career at NC State University in the fall of 2020.

Both of the Mathews' will be competing in the 2020 Carolinas-Georgia Junior Championship over MLK weekend in South Carolina.
