Earlier this year, it was announced that the popular Musical Chairs Summer Concert Series would be making its return to Alamance County after the series was totally canceled in 2020 and only a limited number of concerts happened in 2021. This means Mebane will host four concerts in its downtown beginning in May.
The Musical Chairs Concert Series is a series of free, outdoor concerts that take place each Friday of the summer months in a different town in Alamance County each week. Currently, three communities - Mebane, Burlington and Graham - take part in the series.
Alamance Arts says the series “gives local and regional artists a chance to perform in an outdoor setting.”
“The City of Mebane is excited to bring back a full slate of concerts to downtown for our citizens to enjoy,” Recreation and Parks Director Aaron Davis said in a statement to the Mebane Enterprise. “While having the opportunity to host just one concert last year, we saw the joy that came from that night.”
Mebane will host concerts on the third Friday of the month frm 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the city’s downtown. The schedule for the concerts are as follows:
May 20: Island Time Band (beach music) will be performing
June 17: Dear Sister (classic rock and pop music) will be performing
July 15: Indian Outlaw (a Tim McGraw tribute band) will be performing
August 19: Red Dirt Revival (country music) will be performing.
The summer concert series is presented by Flemania Legacy Group, and Whiskey Sowers will be the stag sponsor for each concert, Davis said.
“We are happy to partner again with Alamance Arts, Mebane Business Association and Destination Downtown Mebane to enhance the concert series,” he added.
Just like pre-pandemic, food trucks will be in the downtown area for the concerts and the city plans to announce who those vendors will be in the coming days.
“We hope that many citizens will come downtown to see the performances and enjoy the social nature of these concerts,” Davis said. “It means a lot to the City of Mebane to continue to provide meaningful events and programs that bring the community together and provide entertainment and happiness to those who attend.”
Concerts are always subject to cancellation due to inclement weather.
