Children's Garden Montessori

Children’s Garden Montessori will open Aug. 29. The school is at 614 N. First St. in Mebane, near the Food Lion. The owner said the school is also having an open house on Aug. 27.

Children’s Garden Montessori will have its open house Aug. 27 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., with its official opening on Aug. 29. In February of this year, Brandi Austin, the school’s owner, cited Mebane’s rapid growth as key to the increasing demand for her school.

“I adore Mebane, and I’ve seen it grow so much in the last few years,” Austin said earlier this year to the Mebane Enterprise. “And I really think Mebane deserves to have an authentic, quality Montessori program.”

As she predicted, the response from Mebane has been strong, with the toddler class already being full, and only a few openings remaining in the primary classroom.

“We’re getting great feedback,” Austin said. “Mostly, we’re hearing ‘thank you so much for bringing this to Mebane,’ which is what we wanted to do. That was our mission. To bring Montessori to Mebane. It’s so rewarding to hear that feedback.”

Children’s Garden Montessori is the first business foray for Austin, who has been a licensed Montessori teacher for more than nine years. She said the process has been a lot of work, but end result has been a dream come true, and worth overcoming obstacles.

“Everything has been a challenge,” she said. “There’s a lot of people that you need to talk to and get connected with each other. But we’re near the end of that now, and we’re excited and ready to open and to share our space with the community.”

The primary classroom at Children’s Garden Montessori is for 3- to 6-year-olds, and the toddler classroom is for 18 months to 3-years-old. Austin said while there are no openings in the toddler class, she is planning to open a second toddler classroom in January.

“We’ll have to hire on two more teachers. We are taking applications,” Austin said.

The school is at 614 N. First St. in Mebane, in what was once a pharmacy in front of Food Lion. The location required some renovation and adding an outdoor play area.

“We have installed a fence and we have added mulch and play structures. We have bikes. We have a climbing dome and swing sets. We still have some of that asphalt from the parking lot, so we’ll use that for the bikes and sidewalk chalk, but it’s looking more like a playground than a parking lot.”

The calendar for Children’s Garden Montessori’s will closely resemble the schedule for Alamance/Burlington Schools, with slight differences with some of the teacher work days. The regular school day is from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Before care is provided from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m., and after school runs from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
