Project to expand busy Mebane thoroughfare gets underway

The project to widen Mebane Oaks Road in Mebane has started, as indicated in the photograph above. Over the past week, crews have started the process of clearing the land which will create the extra lanes for this increasingly-busy thoroughfare, which sits along the I-40/I-85 freeway corridor and connects areas of Mebane south and north of the interstate. There are also underground infrastructure pipes that will be installed as the clearing makes it way north to the Garrett Crossing Shopping Center.

The Mebane Oaks widening project is a much-needed addition to the area, which has grown by leaps and bounds over the past several years. Just in the past few years along, this area of Mebane Oaks Road has gotten Chick-fil-A, Arby’s, Taco Bell, and Cook Out, as well as a third Mebane Fire Department Station.

There is also a new building going up across the street from the Garrett Crossing Shopping Center, which includes Walmart and numerous local shops and small businesses. The new building, pictured above, will feature the showroom for Signature Flooring, and will also include additional retail space that will be available for rent upon completion.
