National fast food brands going all-out to win the high demand for consumer chicken

McDonald’s and Shake Shack have both kicked off 2021 by announcing new fried chicken sandwiches as they join the hotly debated fried chicken wars. Both chains are looking to capitalize on fried chicken’s impressive robustness during the pandemic. While visits to fast-food restaurants are down by 23%, fried chicken chains have only seen a 6% reduction, outperforming burger chains which have experienced a downturn of 15%. With two burger giants making big plays in the fried chicken arena, TOP Data looked into the current fried chicken industry and found that KFC is currently winning the Chicken wars across the US coming out on top in 14 states, followed by Church’s Chicken with 9 and Raising Canes with 8.
