Hillsborough police have arrested two men in connection with a fatal shooting at a shopping center late Thursday afternoon.
Officers received a call at 5:36 p.m. April 1 about a disturbance at the Hillsborough Discount Tobacco and Vape store, 535 Hampton Pointe Blvd., in which a fight ensued. During the course of the fight, a 19-year-old man from Mebane had been shot. He was transported to Duke University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police have charged:
- Doyle Edwards, 22, of Mill Creek Road in Efland with felony first-degree murder, felony breaking and entering a vehicle, felony larceny of a firearm, misdemeanor simple assault in reference to the fight, and violation of a town ordinance for discharging a firearm within town limits.
- Chase Torain, 21, Elijah Poole Road in Cedar Grove with misdemeanor simple assault in reference to the fight.
The men were held at the Orange County Jail, Edwards on no bond and Torain on a $500,000 bond based on this case and unserved warrants in Alamance County.
