The Eastern Alamance High men’s and women’s swimming teams competed in the NCHSAA 3A swimming Central Regionals earlier this month at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The Eagles women’s squad placed 11th overall in the Regionals, while both the women’s and men’s squads had some notable individual performances.
Sophomore Braylee Carter posted the top individual result for the Eagles, as she placed fourth overall in the women’s 200 yard individual medley event with a time of 2 minutes, 18.32 seconds. Carter also recorded a fifth place finish in the 500 yard freestyle individual race with a time of 5 minutes, 28.23 seconds.
Men’s junior Ethan Brouwer also competed individually in the men’s 500 yard freestyle event, coming in 11th place overall with a time of 5 minutes, 56.71 seconds. Tenth grader Owen Sawyer placed ninth with a time of 2 minutes, 13.21 seconds in the 200 yard individual medley event. Sawyer also placed tenth in the 100 yard butterfly event, recording a time of 57.28 seconds in the finals.
EAHS placed 10th in the women’s 200 yard individual medley relay, as the quartet of freshman Lillian Bacigalupo, sophomore Braylee Carter, sophomore Chloe Scott, and sophomore Molly Widderich recorded a time of 2 minutes, 8.98 seconds. The Eagles’ women’s 200 yard freestyle relay team placed 11th overall in the Regional finals, recording a time of 2 minutes, 2.09 seconds with Scott, Widderich, sophomore Audrey Hupman, and senior Brianna Aldridge competing. The Eastern High women also competed in the 400 yard freestyle relay, as Carter, Hupman, senior Audrey Byrd, and junior Grace Dobson posted a time of 4 minutes, 38.77 seconds - good for 11th place overall.
The Eastern High men’s 200 yard individual medley relay team placed ninth overall, as senior Doc Engwall, junior Ethan Brouwer, sophomore Owen Sawyer, and senior Jackson Stokes recorded a time of 1 minute, 57.15 seconds. The Eagle men placed ninth in the Regionals in the 200 yard freestyle relay race, with senior Jackson Stokes, along with Engwall, Sawyer, and sophomore Brett Hupman posting a finals time of 1 minute, 45.95 seconds. The EAHS men’s 400 yard freestyle relay squad of Hupman, Brouwer, junior Andrew Evans, and freshman Noah Wiggs recording a time of 4 minutes, 16.36 seconds in the finals.
